Moving quietly through the trees with the herd, I caught a glimpse of him as he paused within the timber. I slowed, raising the camera as his gaze met mine for just a brief moment—steady, aware, and completely at home in the forest. The rest of the herd drifted through the shadows around him, but he held still long enough for that connection to happen. Then, just as quickly, it was gone.
