Finding a Great Gray Owl is never something I expect—it is something I hope for. When we finally located this magnificent bird, the real adventure had just begun. For the next couple of hours, we followed at a respectful distance as it moved from perch to perch, silently hunting the meadow below. Every relocation meant reading the landscape, anticipating where it might land next, and carefully positioning myself without disturbing its natural behavior. Then it settled atop this weathered snag, surrounded by the warm colors of autumn, and paused just long enough for everything to come together. Autumn Perch captures more than a beautiful owl—it represents the pursuit, patience, and privilege of photographing one of the most sought-after birds in North America in its natural world.
